What it is

Rosie Revere, Ada Twist, and Iggy Peck is an original one-act family musical based on Andrea Beaty's picture-book series The Questioneers, illustrated by David Roberts. Three of its young heroes share a classroom here: Rosie the engineer, Iggy the architect and Ada the scientist. Lauren Gunderson wrote the book, Bree Lowdermilk the music and Kait Kerrigan the lyrics.

TheaterWorksUSA, a New York nonprofit that makes plays and musicals for young and family audiences and tours them across North America, produces it. This is a limited engagement at the New Victory Theater, billed as the musical's New York premiere, and it opens the theater's 2026-27 season.

The books came out one at a time: Iggy Peck, Architect in 2007, Rosie Revere, Engineer in 2013 and Ada Twist, Scientist in 2016.

The story

Rosie Revere, Iggy Peck and Ada Twist are classmates in Ms. Greer's second-grade class. Rosie dreams big but hides her machines, sure that nobody will understand her ideas. Iggy is happiest when he is building something. Ada fires off so many questions that their teacher, Miss Lila Greer, struggles to keep up.

Rosie's Great Great Aunt Rose, an adventurous relative modeled on Rosie the Riveter, cheers her on, and the two write each other letters. At home, Rosie wonders whether to give up engineering after other people laughed at her inventions.

The trouble starts on a class field trip to a park with trees, a pond and small islands. The outing goes off course, and the whole class ends up stranded on an island.

The music

Lowdermilk wrote all the music the characters sing, plus the underscoring, while Kerrigan wrote the sung words; the two worked out song ideas and hooks together. Each character gets a song about how he or she sees the world. Lloyd Kikoler is credited with the orchestrations.

The production

The park and its water are only suggested, by the performers, the scenery and the props. Pasternack says science and engineering ideas are worked into the script, choreography, set and sound.

Five performers share the stage. As of October 2026, Savannah Trotter plays Rosie Revere, Malynne Smith plays Ada Twist, Sam Matthews plays Iggy Peck, Christy Fischer plays Lila Greer and Genesis Harper plays Great Great Aunt Rose.

History

The musical belongs to TheaterWorksUSA's touring repertory. In the 2024-25 season it toured North America as Ada Twist, Scientist & Friends, with tour direction by Jillian Carrucci and tour choreography by Michael Anthony Sylvester. The New Victory engagement began with its first public performance on October 17, 2026.

By working as a team, the trio finds a way to bring the whole class home safely. Each adds what he or she knows as engineer, architect or scientist, and together they build a bridge across the water.
